Oregon

We spent the first leg of our trip mostly in Oregon. The idea was to get our feet wet close enough to home to be able to get back quickly if the wheels started to fall off, literally or figuratively. We learned what kind of pacing made sense to us, where we liked to camp and not, and how to live in a van without killing each other.

Smoke was an issue and a few times we experienced skys that felt apocalyptic. Those of us on the west coast have been dealing with this regularly for some years now. Oregon was full of gorgeous lakes and we put the paddleboards to good use.

Some of our favorite lakes were:
Crater Lake
Suttle Lake
Lake of the Woods
Diamond Lake
Sparks Lake
